GENERAL DESCRIPTION

CLASSIFLEX™ MORTAR ADD MIX is a Styrene-Acrylic copolymer emulsion with exceptionally good flexibility, developed for use with Portland cement. It enhances strength, adhesion, waterproofing, durability, workability and long-term performance of all cement-based mixes.

USES

For use with cement mortars and concrete mixes to give:

  • Excellent water resistance

  • Enhanced adhesion

  • Good flexibility

  • Improved workability with a smooth, “buttery” plaster flow

  • Increased strength, resilience and load-bearing properties

  • Reduced shrinkage and micro-cracking

  • Improved bonding to brick, plaster, concrete and masonry

  • Reduced risk of efflorescence (not guaranteed — see explanation below)

Damp Prevention & Water Tanking

CLASSIFLEX™ helps prevent damp on:

  • Interior and exterior walls

  • Shower floors and walls

  • Retaining walls

  • Concrete decks and balconies

  • Reservoirs, tanks, ponds and dams

  • Garden walls and walkways

Creates an impermeable waterproof barrier ideal for tanking basements, below-ground walls, and damp walls above ground.

WHY CLASSIFLEX™ MUST BE USED ON CONCRETE DECKS, BALCONIES & FLOORS

Concrete decks and other horizontal surfaces suffer from:

  • Standing water

  • Slow drainage

  • Thermal expansion

  • Foot traffic

  • Weathering

  • Micro-cracking

  • Surface absorption

CLASSIFLEX™ provides:

  • Strong waterproofing of horizontal surfaces

  • Reduced porosity and water absorption

  • Improved flexural strength to resist cracking

  • Superior adhesion on dense concrete

  • Increased abrasion and impact resistance

  • Reduced efflorescence caused by moisture migration

  • A tough, flexible polymer-reinforced cement matrix

  • Dramatically improved durability and lifespan

CLASSIFLEX™ is essential for all exposed concrete decks, balconies and screeds.

Level of Usage

  • Standard: 20% of cement weight

  • Thin screeds / high-bond applications: 20–30%

  • Compatible with Portland, High Alumina and fast-setting cements

  • White cement may be added to lighten colour

KEY FEATURES & BENEFITS

CLASSIFLEX™ is non-toxic, non-corrosive, and easy to use. Prepare mortar normally, use less water, and add CLASSIFLEX™.

APPLICATION BENEFITS

  • Superb workability – smooth, creamy, “buttery” application

  • Easier trowelling and floating

  • Less drag on walls

  • More even coating and smoother final surface

  • Better slip resistance – plaster “hangs” better on vertical surfaces

  • Reduces sagging, slumping and sliding during application

  • Allows thicker coats without pulling loose

  • Extends open time, giving better finishing control

  • Requires less water, resulting in stronger plaster

PLASTER WALL PERFORMANCE BENEFITS

Superior Workability & Flow

  • Buttery, creamy consistency

  • Reduced labour fatigue

  • Easier spreading and levelling

  • Better finish with fewer tool marks

Stronger Bond to All Wall Substrates

  • Old plaster

  • Brick & block

  • Concrete

  • Screeds

  • Properly prepared painted walls

Reduces:

  • Delamination

  • Debonding

  • Hollow spots

  • Peeling and blistering

Crack Resistance & Flexural Strength

  • Reduces hairline cracks

  • Resists thermal expansion

  • Reduces crazing

  • Stronger corners, edges and reveals

Reduced Shrinkage

  • Less mixing water = fewer drying cracks

  • Less micro-cracking

  • More stable curing

Water Resistance on Plastered Walls

  • Reduces absorption

  • Prevents damp staining

  • Improves exterior durability

  • Reduces blistering and paint failure

Efflorescence Reduction (Accurate)

  • Reduces water absorption

  • Tightens the cement matrix

  • Slows salt migration

Complete elimination not guaranteed — efflorescence may still occur with rising damp, high-salt substrates, or continuous moisture exposure.

Enhanced Durability

  • Higher impact and abrasion resistance

  • Stronger, denser plaster

  • Resists knocks and daily wear

  • Increased chemical resistance (urine, sugars, lactic acid, dilute chemicals)

ABOUT DAMP & RISING DAMP

CLASSIFLEX™ does:

  • Improve surface waterproofing

  • Reduce damp staining

  • Reduce moisture penetration

  • Improve drying times

  • Protect paint adhesion

CLASSIFLEX™ does NOT:

  • Stop rising damp

  • Replace a damp-proof course (DPC)

Rising damp requires:

  • A physical damp-proof course, or

  • A chemical injection system

CLASSIFLEX™ is a damp-resistant modifier — not a rising damp cure.

DURABILITY BENEFITS

  • Excellent water resistance

  • Weather resistant

  • UV stable

  • Alkali resistant

  • Increased abrasion and impact resistance

  • Strong long-term performance in all climates

APPLICATIONS

  • Reservoirs

  • Ponds

  • Tanks

  • Shower floors & walls

  • Screeded roofs & balconies

  • Concrete masonry

  • Veranda floors (before tiling)

  • Retaining walls

  • Tile adhesives & grouts

  • Bagging & render coats

  • Avoid adverse weather

  • Clean tools immediately

  • Lab data may vary on-site

SAFETY

  • Always keep out of reach of children and animals.

  • Do not take in orally - harmful if swallowed. Seek medical attention and do not induce vomiting.

  • If accidental contact with skin, wash immediately with soap and water or a good quality skin cleaner.

  • If accidental contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice.

  • Do not let a freshly painted room be occupied, particularly not by older people, children, or pets.

  • Wear a respirator if the area being painted cannot be adequately ventilated, and work for short periods only.

  • Ventilate the area to be painted, opening all doors and windows and using fans during application and drying.

  • Protect floors with cloth drop cloths, not plastic, which is far more slippery.

  • Do not paint or store paint near any heat source such as a water heater or fireplace and never smoke while painting.

  • Make sure your ladder is in good shape. Set the legs on an even surface and lock the cross braces. Do not stand on the top of the ladder or on the utility shelf. If you are having difficulty reaching a spot, get down from the ladder and move it rather than leaning out.

  • Clean up carefully and thoroughly when you are done for the day.

  • If rags have alkyd paint or thinner on them, leave them to dry outside to avoid any chance of spontaneous combustion.

  • Choose an area inaccessible to children and pets, and when they are thoroughly dry, take them to a toxic-waste dump site.
